Location: Kelowna, BC
Client: Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO)
Project Type: Creek Stabilization & Environmental Civil Works
Specialized Earthworks in a Sensitive Creek Environment
First Tracks Contracting contributed to the Mission Creek Greenway slope stabilization project for the Regional District of Central Okanagan, completing specialized excavation, creek diversion and bank restoration work in an environmentally sensitive area.
Working under client-provided designs and environmental consultant oversight, our team carried out construction within the designated fisheries work window, ahead of salmon spawning season.
The project required careful management of creek flows and sediment, including temporary creek diversion, bypass pumping, channel preparation and a temporary crossing to facilitate equipment access and construction.
Using 20- and 24-tonne excavators, First Tracks installed approximately 802 cubic metres of riprap and 12 root wads to support the stabilization and restoration of the creek bank.
Our team also reshaped portions of the creek bed, reused excavated material around the riprap, and restored disturbed areas following construction.
Access was coordinated through a neighbouring private property, requiring consideration of equipment movement, temporary staging and restoration of the homeowner's property. Final revegetation included subcontracted hydroseeding.
Project Highlights
Installation of approximately 802 m³ of riprap
Placement of 12 root wads for bank stabilization
